Kochański's Workshop

Demonstration version 0.9 — a working model. Everything marked as ours awaits refinement once archival research is done. See what we still don't know.

Terms of use

The site is free, needs no account and takes no data. This page says who runs it, whose the texts and scans are, what the site does not promise about itself, and what to do when you find an error in it.

Who runs it

The site is run by dr Krzysztof Atłasiewicz as a private research project. No institution, grant or team stands behind it. Contact: office@adamandy.pl.

What the site is

A set of working instruments and texts about the work of Adam Adamandy Kochański. Reading it and operating the instruments is free and requires no registration. The site sells nothing, brokers no one's services and takes no content from users.

Each instrument has its own address for embedding on another site. You may use it, provided the embedding does not strip the markers that say what rests on a period account and what we add ourselves — without them the instrument claims more than it is entitled to claim.

Whose the texts are, whose the scans

The texts, drawings and code of the site are the work of the person running it and are subject to copyright. This does not bar quotation on the usual terms: a passage may be cited with its source and author named.

The scans and photographs do not belong to the site. They belong to the institutions that make them available — libraries, archives and museums — and the site does not take them over. It links to them wherever the licence allows, and where it does not, says so plainly and leads to the publisher. To use such material, apply to the institution that holds it; it is named beside every entry in the list of sources.

What the site does not promise

It does not promise to be free of error. On the contrary: it assumes errors are in it, and for that reason keeps a decision register, a register of changes and an agenda of open questions. It has already happened that a claim stood here for months before someone went to the printed source and it proved wrong; such cases are set out in the register with the date and the grounds of the correction.

The site is a demonstration version. The parts marked as ours await refinement once the source enquiry is done. The markers beside each instrument say which parts those are.

The numerical results are a computation made by modern methods on historical data. They are not a measurement, nor a reconstruction of how any particular surviving object behaved, unless the page says otherwise.

When you find an error

Write to office@adamandy.pl. A substantive report will go into the decision register or the agenda, with its provenance named — without naming you, unless you wish it. Details in the privacy page.

The most useful report names a source: the edition, the page, the shelfmark. The site rests on the distinction between what comes from a source and what we add ourselves, so a correction without stated grounds can at best open a question in the agenda, not close one.

Changes

These terms may change when what they describe changes. A substantive change goes into the register of changes together with its reason.
